Dragonfly is one of Alywillow’s most complex Nourishments, created from carefully selected botanicals to support the body as a whole. At the heart of Dragonfly is vitality.

But we don’t think of vitality as simply having more energy. The body is made of interconnected systems that continually communicate, respond, move, repair, and adapt. When those systems are well nourished and supported, the whole body can function more harmoniously. That was the inspiration behind Dragonfly.

More Than Skin Care

Dragonfly was formulated with botanicals traditionally associated with support for the:

That doesn’t mean Dragonfly is intended to diagnose or treat conditions involving these systems. It means these relationships were part of the botanical research that guided the formulation.

Rather than choosing one plant for one purpose, we looked for botanicals with complementary qualities—plants traditionally valued for calming, restoration, healthy circulation and movement, skin care, emotional well-being, and overall balance.

Calm Without Losing Your Spark

One of the most beautiful things about Dragonfly is the relationship between calm and vitality. Feeling vital doesn’t necessarily mean feeling stimulated.

Sometimes tension, stress, physical discomfort, or simply the demands of everyday life can leave us feeling depleted. Dragonfly brings together botanicals traditionally valued for calming and restorative properties alongside brighter botanicals chosen for their uplifting character.

It is one reason Dragonfly has remained one of my personal favorites. For me, there has always been something about Dragonfly that simply makes me feel happy. That is my personal experience with the formula, rather than a promise of how everyone will experience it—but it is part of Dragonfly’s story.

Supporting the Nervous System

Dragonfly includes botanicals selected in part for their traditional relationships with the nervous system, relaxation, tension, and emotional balance. Among them are Ho wood, ylang ylang, bay laurel, Amyris, and other botanicals that contribute different pieces to the formula.

Ho wood, for example, is naturally associated with linalool-rich aromatic chemistry, while ylang ylang has been studied in aromatherapy settings for its relationship with relaxation and physiological arousal.

Ylang ylang is present in Dragonfly only in a very small amount. That is intentional. At Alywillow, we don’t believe that using more of a botanical automatically creates a better formula. Each plant has its place within the whole.

Restoration Is Part of Vitality

Dragonfly also contains botanicals traditionally valued for their relationship with inflammation, physical comfort, skin restoration, and recovery.

Myrrh is an especially important part of this story. It has an extraordinarily long history of botanical use and continues to be studied for properties including antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity. Bay laurel and a very small amount of sweet birch add additional dimensions to Dragonfly’s restorative botanical profile.

This is also why skin is an important part of Dragonfly. Dragonfly wasn't simply placed into skincare products after the formula was created. The integumentary system—the skin and its associated structures—was part of the original formulation research.

Its botanicals were selected with healthy-looking skin, restoration, environmental stress, and the changes that accompany mature skin in mind.

The Rivers of Your Body

One of the phrases we have used over the years to describe Dragonfly is “the rivers of your body.” We still love it.

The body depends upon movement and communication. Blood carries oxygen, nutrients, hormones, and countless other substances. The nervous system communicates. The respiratory system continually exchanges gases. Digestion moves nourishment through us. The urinary system participates in fluid balance and elimination. Hormones carry messages throughout the body.

Dragonfly was created with that interconnectedness in mind. Its circulatory botanicals were chosen as part of a much larger philosophy of supporting healthy flow, communication, and whole-body vitality.

Feminine Balance

The reproductive and endocrine systems were also important considerations in the development of Dragonfly. The formula was originally researched with feminine cycle balance in mind, alongside the relationship between the reproductive, endocrine, and nervous systems.

Over the years, some Alywillow customers have also told us that their previously irregular cycles became more regular while consistently using Dragonfly. Those are customer experiences, not a claim that Dragonfly regulates menstrual cycles or treats menstrual disorders. We share them because listening to what people experience with our formulas has always been part of Alywillow’s history.

A Botanical Formula, Not a Fragrance

These are only some of the plants within the complete formula. Together, the botanicals create Dragonfly’s wonderfully soft aroma—something people have sometimes described as almost reminiscent of baby powder.

But we didn't begin with a fragrance and then add plants to create it. We began with the plants. Their aroma is simply one of the gifts that came with them.

Why So Many Botanicals?

Alywillow formulations aren't based on the idea that one ingredient must do everything. Plants are wonderfully complex. A botanical selected for one reason may have a long history of use involving several different systems or functions.

Dragonfly intentionally brings many of those relationships together. Some botanicals contribute primarily to the formula’s restorative character. Others contribute to calm and relaxation. Others are associated with healthy movement and flow. And some, such as cold-pressed red grapefruit, bring a distinctly bright and uplifting quality.

More Isn't Always Better

Dragonfly also reflects an important part of Alywillow formulation philosophy: botanical strength is not measured simply by how much essential oil we can put into a product.

Some of Dragonfly’s essential oils are intentionally present only in very small amounts. Where an applicable EU/IFRA standard establishes a maximum concentration for an ingredient and use category, Alywillow’s own formulation ceiling is no more than half of that maximum.

We would rather formulate thoughtfully and conservatively, allowing many botanicals to work together, than push an individual ingredient simply because a higher concentration is permitted. It is one of the reasons Dragonfly can be both extraordinarily complex and beautifully gentle.
