Lemon Laughs was the first formula Aliya created, when she was about 22. It began with a moment in a campground shower house: she loved how happy its aroma made her feel. Other women noticed and loved the scent, too. Then Aliya noticed an unexpected change in her own blemish-prone skin. Over the years, customers shared similar experiences.

More Than a Citrus Scent

We call Lemon Laughs a Nourishment because it brings together more than 20 botanicals. Bright lemon, tangerine, sweet orange, and Key lime meet earthy dark patchouli, lemongrass, palmarosa, and many other plants. It is sunny without smelling like artificial lemon fragrance; patchouli gives the brightness a grounded base.

Light on the Outside

Lemon Laughs has a longstanding reputation among our customers for helping skin look clearer and more even. Blemishes, visible discoloration, and weathered-looking skin are all part of its history. That reputation arose from people's experience with the formula, including Aliya's own, rather than from a finished-formula clinical trial.

Several important botanicals give us interesting research threads. Palmarosa essential oil has been studied in laboratory work involving Cutibacterium acnes, a bacterium associated with acne. Lemongrass and tangerine oils also have laboratory research involving that organism. These ingredient studies help us understand why the plants interested us, but they cannot promise the same result from every Lemon Laughs product for every person.

Light on the Inside

Aliya first remembered how the aroma made her feel: happy. The bright citrus character and earthy depth are part of the experience, whether you choose to wash, spritz, or moisturize. We think of it as light above and earth below.

The original formulation research also considered relationships among the skin, nervous system, and glandular or endocrine system. Stress, hormones, and skin physiology can interact. This is part of the whole-person perspective behind Lemon Laughs; it does not mean that applying the formula has been shown to change hormone levels.

The Plants Behind the Formula

Some important essential oils include cold-pressed lemon (Citrus limon), dark patchouli (Pogostemon cablin), cold-pressed tangerine (Citrus reticulata), cold-pressed sweet orange (Citrus sinensis), Key lime, lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus), and palmarosa (Cymbopogon martinii var. motia). These are only part of a formula with more than 20 botanicals.

The plants were chosen for overlapping botanical properties and a sensory experience that feels joyful and grounded. No one oil tells the whole Lemon Laughs story.

Lemon Laughs was first experienced while washing. Warm water, the aroma in the air, the feel of cleansing, and a few unhurried moments all become part of the ritual. Our question is simple: what are we giving our bodies while we wash?

A Note About Citrus and Sunlight

Some of the formula's important citrus oils are cold-pressed. Certain expressed citrus oils can increase sun sensitivity when concentrated material remains on skin before ultraviolet exposure. The effect depends on the specific oil and finished product. Please follow the directions and sun precautions for your particular Lemon Laughs item.
