Natural Tick Protection & What to Do After a Tick Bite
Plant-Based Tick Protection
Ticks are a concern anywhere you spend time in woods, tall grass, gardens, fields, or other outdoor areas. Alywillow uses a two-product approach for tick protection: NATIVE-SHIELD for outdoor bug protection, strengthened with FORTIFY Plant Serum when ticks are a concern.
For Preventing Tick Bites
NATIVE-SHIELD is designed primarily for mosquitoes, horseflies, houseflies, no-see-ums, and other biting insects. For added tick protection, add 20 drops of FORTIFY Plant Serum to one bottle of NATIVE-SHIELD, then shake well before use.
Apply NATIVE-SHIELD as directed and rub it into the skin rather than simply misting it on. It can also be applied to clothing, hair, and shoes when spending time outdoors.
Why Add FORTIFY?
FORTIFY is a highly concentrated pure-plant serum. In Alywillow's outdoor-use directions, it is added to NATIVE-SHIELD specifically when stronger protection against ticks is wanted.
If a Tick Has Already Bitten
If you find an attached tick, FORTIFY can also be used directly on the bite area. Apply one drop to the area. Alywillow's directions describe this as helping with removal of the tick and its head. After removal, continue applying FORTIFY to the spot for a few days to help calm the itching, swelling, and discomfort associated with the bite.
FORTIFY is very concentrated and can irritate or burn healthy skin, so keep it limited to the affected area. Follow with an Alywillow moisturizer or oil as directed.
Outdoor Routine
- Add 20 drops of FORTIFY to a bottle of NATIVE-SHIELD.
- Shake well before each use.
- Apply to exposed skin and rub it in thoroughly.
- Apply to clothing, shoes, or hair as desired for outdoor protection.
- After spending time outdoors, check your body carefully for ticks.
- If you find a tick attached, remove it promptly and use FORTIFY on the affected spot according to its directions.
Pure-Plant Protection
Both products are part of Alywillow's pure-plant approach to outdoor care. NATIVE-SHIELD contains no DEET, while FORTIFY is used in small amounts because of its concentrated botanical strength.
Important: Follow the directions and cautions on each individual product page. FORTIFY should not be spread broadly over healthy skin because of its concentration. If you have plant allergies or experience irritation, discontinue use.
